The Southport News Bureau focuses on providing the student body, faculty and community with current, up-to-date news. News Bureau strives to output positive news about Southport to local media for publicity.
The publication is student-run under the advisement of Mr. Klopfenstein, the journalism teacher at Southport.
The awards below consist of special recognitions the Bureau staff has received at Ball State’s annual Journalism Day, where they give awards in a variety of categories, from photography to design. There are three levels of recognition – an Honorable Mention (the third place), Excellence (second place) and Superior (first place). The honors the Bureau staff have received are:

Honorable Mention in Broadcast Feature (to Clayton Leslie, for the feature “Coach Leah Enterline video“).
Honorable Mention in Broadcast Feature (to Clayton and Devin Leslie, for the feature “Boy’s track and field season preview video“).
Honorable Mention in Online News Writing (to Lucas Sweitzer, for the story “Block scheduling, homeroom among budget-cut casualties“).
Excellence in Overall Content (to the entire staff for the site in general).
Superior in Home Page Design (to Lucas Sweitzer, for the home page).
